You don’t need to invest in a bunch of equipment to get kinky. Want to experiment with light bondage? No leather restraints? Try a sexy silk scarf. A wooden spoon can be used as a paddle.

Cash put the open bottle of wine on the table and went back to making the salad. It was almost seven, and he was starting to worry that Kim might not show. Fuck. He’d been off his game since meeting her. She was perfect in many respects. Beautiful and sexy with an attitude the size of Texas, but she was so determined to keep him at arm’s length. If he were smart, he’d back away while there was still a chance to get out unscathed. But like a siren’s song, there was something about her he couldn’t resist.

At five past seven, there was a knock on his door. He wasn’t sure if it was a willful act on Kim’s part, another way she could maintain control of the situation, or if she was just running a bit late.

He opened the door, and she was standing on his stoop, hair pinned away from her clean face, bundled up in a heavy winter jacket, big snowflakes swirling around her like an aura of white. He held the door open to let her in, but she just stood there, looking down at her feet.

“I wasn’t sure if I was going to come over or not.”

“And now?”

She fingered one of the buttons on her jacket and let out a long breath. “I like you. I like you more than I should. We’re neighbors, so that makes this”—she wagged a finger between the two of them—“us a bad idea.”

“I know. But that’s not going to stop me.” He could appreciate her hesitance, but when it came right down to it, it was just another excuse. There were no guarantees in matters of the heart. There came a point in life where you just had to let go and fall. “Come in, Kim. We’ll have dinner, and then if you want to leave, I won’t stop you.”

She stood there and blinked at him for a few seconds as if trying to process his words. “I don’t understand. When you asked me over tonight, I thought—”

“What? You thought I was going to jump you the second you walked through the door?” He couldn’t hold back the laugh. What kind of men had she dated in the past? And then he remembered the club and the drawings. Maybe that’s all she wanted from him.

And honestly, he wanted nothing more than to get her in his bed, but if this was going to be more than a one-time thing, they would need to have a frank discussion about expectations. Hell, despite his late-night internet searches, he still had no idea what she expected or wanted out of a relationship. The one thing he did know was the only way he’d find out was to talk to her about it.

“Trust me,” he said.
